Scam Link Guard — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 23 October 2026 (version 1.1)
Summary
Scam Link Guard checks links on your own computer. It does not collect, send, sell or share what you read, the links you see, or anything about you.
What the extension reads
On the supported chat, email and social-media websites, the extension reads the web addresses of links on the page and a short piece of the message around each link, so it can decide whether the link looks like a scam. This happens entirely inside your browser. The text is used only for that check and is not stored or sent anywhere.
On the supported chat and email websites it also reads the text of incoming messages to spot common scam messages (for example requests for an OTP, “digital arrest” threats or fake job offers), and shows a warning under the message. This also happens entirely inside your browser.
When you paste text into the “Check a message or link” box, or use the right-click “Check” options, that text is checked inside your browser and is not stored or sent anywhere.
Optional: protection on every website
Only if you switch on “Also warn me on fake bank / UPI / government pages on any website” (and approve Chrome's permission prompt), the extension also checks the pages you open on other websites: their address, title, headings and the labels of form fields (for example whether a page asks for a password, OTP or card number). It never reads what you type into those fields. This check also happens entirely inside your browser, and nothing is sent anywhere. You can switch it off at any time, which also removes the permission.
What it stores on your computer
- Your settings (on/off and language) and the sites you chose to trust.
- Simple counters (links checked, warnings shown, clicks stopped) and a list of the last 25 warnings (the web address, or the type of scam message — never the message text), shown in the extension's popup.
- A public list of known phishing domains.
All of this is kept in the browser's extension storage on your device. The developer has no access to it.
Network use
Once a day the extension downloads the public, open-source Phishing.Database list of known phishing domains from GitHub. This is a plain download of the whole list: no information about you, your browsing or the links you see is included in the request. Links are never sent to any server to be checked.
What the extension does not do
- No accounts, analytics, advertising, tracking or remote code.
- No sale or transfer of data to anyone.
- No use of data for anything other than warning you about scam links.
Donations
The “Buy me a coffee” button opens the developer's donation page in a new tab. Any payment happens on that third-party site under its own privacy policy.
Deleting your data
Uninstalling the extension removes everything it stored.
